Along the Road
I walked a mile with Pleasure,
She chattered all the way,
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.
I walked a mile with Sorrow
And ne're a word said she;
But oh, the things I learned from her
When Sorrow walked with me!
Robert Browning Hamilton
Two things I have learned so far: the human body can hold more tears than
I ever thought possible and your heart can truly break.
For those of us who loved him, finding peace will be a very long journey
but when I read these words I thought of Rick and believe he would say
something like this if he could:
"Death is nothing at all - I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still
are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way you
always used. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh at
the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray
for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without the ghost of a shadow on it. Life means all
that it ever meant...there is absolutely unbroken continuity. I am
waiting for you...somewhere near, just around the corner.
All is well."
